I donât know if anyone else noticed this, but during Maddyâs birthday scene in Euphoria, Cassie is actually perfectly fine emotionally for most of the party. What completely changes her behavior and sends her spiraling is the moment Nate shows up, specifically for Maddy and not for her.
Thatâs what makes the scene so interesting psychologically. Cassie had already betrayed Maddy by secretly sleeping with Nate, yet before Nate arrived she was still celebrating with everyone, helping with the birthday, taking picture like the one below, bringing out the cake, and acting relatively normal. She was fully capable of sitting beside Maddy and hiding the truth without emotionally collapsing.
But the second Nate appeared, her emotional weakness completely took over and her entire world came crashing down publicly. Suddenly the guilt, jealousy, insecurity, and fear all exploded at once and ruined the night.
Thatâs why I think Cassieâs breakdown wasnât entirely about feeling guilty for hurting Maddy morally. A huge part of it was tied to Nate emotionally. Seeing him interact with Maddy triggered her deepest insecurity, which is what caused the drunken spiral. Before Nate showed up, she was emotionally managing the secret just fine
Jules isn't a villain. She's a girl who loved Rue but couldn't save her. No one can save an addict. Not a mother. Not a girlfriend. Not a friend. Jules chose herself. That's not cruel. That's the only choice she had left.đ„
