A worthy read?
It is high time I start reading autobiographies and biographies. I need to understand the power of 'Self-mythologization'. What lies in these ideographs?
Let me find the secrets. I will read.

The rich man’s sins are hidden In the pomp of wealth and station; And escape the sight Of the children of light, Who are wise in their generation.

O incomprehensible God!
Shall my pilot be my inborn stars to that final call to Thee.
O my river’s complex course?
Rest In peace

the legacy lives.
I hear your call!
I hear it far away;
I hear it break the circle of these crouching hills.
I want to view your face again and feel your cold embrace;
or at your brim to set myself and inhale your breath;
or like the trees, to watch my mirrored self unfold and span my ...
course.
And each dying year brings near the sea-bird call, the final call that stills the crested waves and breaks in two the curtain of silence of my upturned canoe.
May tell why Heav'n has made us as we are.
But of this frame the bearings, and the ties,
The strong connections, nice dependencies,
Gradations just, has thy pervading soul
Look'd through? or can a part contain the whole?

To man!
This, alas, it’s not the land you left behind!
Things bedeviled, demonic, you’ll now find
Displayed for unquestioning public praise
By disembodied mindless sycophantic voices.
So carefully tread; it’s a strange land to your feet
For where you’re made to stand may be a grave!
Skins, flying away laden with
Your precious blood. Don't ponder!
It's dangerous here to hear and think such things
Even when they sound like thunder.)

Welcome to the land free of mosquitoes
Ants and flies and dangerous creeping things
Where we no longer fear poisonous stings!
(But don't hear rejoicing mosquitoes singing at night
Or feel their sharp bites leaving itching, swollen

No mockeries now for them; no prayers nor bells.
Nor any voice of mourning save the choirs.—
The shrill, demented choirs of wailing shells;
The bugles calling them from sad shires.
[Wilfred Owen, “Anthem for Doomed Youth,” 1920].
What passing-bells for those who die as cattle
Only the monstrous anger of the guns.
Only the stuttering rifles’s rapid rattle
Can patter out their hasty orisons.

Let the world feel your pain
For when you rise, awaken in them the pitiful sigh
‘We watched them’ fall
on one's face
But ‘tos macheopa ooh’
They risen!

Undoubtedly, lost.
Gone, are the days. Splendour?
Recovered? Wishes non_grant Hopelessness oftentimes jets in. Present and the future?
Oblivion, a blind eye of fate!
Cry, motherland, Weep!
For your days are nigh
Gnash your teeth

But we always, somehow, managed
to roar History back onstage
to take another bow,
to justify, to sanctify
the journey until now.
Time warned us to ask for our money back,
and disagreed with History
as concerns colours white and black.
Not only do we come from further back...
Make even the trestles to shake the dead where they lie awaiting the hearses,
So strong you thump O terrible drums—so loud you bugles blow.

Beat! beat! drums!—blow! bugles! blow!
Make no parley—stop for no expostulation,
Mind not the timid—mind not the weeper or prayer,
Mind not the old man beseeching the young man,
Let not the child’s voice be heard, nor the mother’s entreaties,
