My spouse and world sailing partner had a piece in Nature today about tackling sexism in Australian science.
Tackling pervasive sexism in Australian science requires money, leadership and time https://t.co/QuvDElG2NA
Major changes to NEPA in the budget deal, and not just for energy projects. Some of it codifies existing practice, some of it adds adds time limits and page limits, and possible new NEPA exemptions. Still wrapping my head around this. Starts on p 71. https://t.co/ckqBi5NKwp
This is such a great challenge. Decarbonising the IPCC requires dealing with all the thorny issues: "hard-to-abate", carbon dioxide removal, offsets, fairness, etc.
And who is better placed to demonstrate what is possible than the IPCC itself!

Frankly, I rate the debt ceiling bypass options b4 a literalist court as follows: 1) $ trillion coin 2) later budget legislation implicitly repeals earlier debt limit 3) 14th Am “debt shall not be questioned.” 1/
Problem with the 14th Am approach is that it literally prioritizes 1) paying bond principle when due by issuing new debt (which does not actually increase total US debt 2) arguably, paying interest on bonds when due, and 2/
Gotta admit I am a little disappointed that Robert F Kennedy Jr’s campaign page does not even mention climate change as an issue. Clean it Up | Kennedy24 https://t.co/UiPMrzUtvV
@Peter_Strachan@si_opus_sit@gteasts@JaneoOakley@ABCaustralia@Greens Read my link. It is not per person per year. Even the highest emitters on the planet (like the US) are “only” about 20 tons per year. A newborn baby doesn’t start out emitting 3x as much and by the time they are 30 it’s not likely even 20 ton lifestyles will be sustainable.
@DaddyD0dd also, that “58 tons per year” carbon impact of one child is total bs. There is no reason to expect your child to have a bigger annual carbon footprint than your own. Explained it here: https://t.co/id9J9KDwsS
@Peter_Strachan@si_opus_sit@gteasts@JaneoOakley@ABCaustralia@Greens Sorry, that “57 tons per year” for one child is total bs. Explained it here: https://t.co/id9J9KDwsS. The underlying article takes your child’s future descendants impacts over several centuries and divides by approximate forty years for no particular reason.
Worth noting today that a woman is currently leading a field dominated by men in the most grueling and longest endurance race in sports. Golden Globe Race - Day 185: Solo woman leading Golden Globe with 200-year-old weather routing! More storms ahead! https://t.co/4kTZ4lBt1Q

fairly modest, especially when you include the impacts of a hotel stay. But I get to have a travel adventure, and keep the rhetorical power of the #flyingless argument for taking climate seriously in your own life. /F
Taking #flyingless to a new extreme! Having sailed a boat halfway round the world, from NY to Hobart, TAS, I needed to get to Canberra to attend a gala dinner for US Fulbright scholars. (My spouse, the indomitable @robinbell is a Fulbright Distinguished Chair at CSIRO) 1/
and a bus connection to Canberra. I am on the bus now, due to arrive in Canberra 3:40 this afternoon (it’s Thursday here). The combined price of the 48 hour odyssey, including an inexpensive hotel, is just a little more than a direct flight. The CI2 savings are 7/
