@kcporteous Safest location is probably on Graham Avenue at Smith or Donald as it is pedestrian only - but any corner around the Radisson Hotel could work. Having said that, it is a case of right place & right time when it comes to fledges. Good Luck! ~TPC
Radisson - HEADS UP!
The girls are old enough to take their 1st flights (aka fledging) so from time to time, I will hijack the cam to look for them. 75% of the time I won't find them, 15% I will get lucky & 10% I will have figured out where they like to go.

The last sea ice in Hudson Bay is rapidly melting. Polar bears are starting to show up on land now. We won't know the condition of the bears until monitoring occurs in August-September. I hope they fattened up after my work in April-May because they were pretty lean.
In 1964, Buster Keaton came to Canada to make his final silent film.
It was The Railrodder, a 25-minute comedic travelogue of Canada produced by the National Film Board. It became a classic beloved to this day.
This is the story.

Radisson - downside of having other nests to check is that I can't always monitor the FalconCam. And of course, that is when this little gaggle of girls decide to go a roaming. 1, 2, 3 and eventually 4 all hopped out of the nestbox onto the roof & wandered out of view!

Since it is Canada Day, I thought I would share my personal choices for the Top 10 Canadians.
This is just my own opinion, nothing more. Everyone will have their own Top 10 and that is what makes our history so great :)
Hope you enjoy my list!

Radisson - so pic 2 was not what I was hoping to see at 30 days old! Was plotting a stealth sneak-n-snatch plan when, see pic 3. Multiple potential disasters scenarios averted!! Thanks "little red" for rescuing yourself - don't do it again, or not until you are older!

⛈️ Weather - Winnipeg
Here we go again. Sometimes I can't get a good image of the cloud formations as these storms blow through, sometimes I can. Got lucky today. Boomers & rain in West Wpg at the moment. And of course, tornado risk in s MB along with it all.

Hudson Bay is melting & bears are moving onshore a bit early than optimal but depends on their condition & how long until freeze-up in autumn. Bears were lean in April-May when I was out sampling in spring but a lot can change later in spring (the most critical feeding period).

As you can see, we cleaned the inside camera - the girls did a wonderful job making a mess. They don't have a problem with their aim!
When will we switch the cam view you ask? Chicks will likely be in & out over the next week or two, we'll play it by ear.

Radisson - yesterday we banded Ella's & Pandemic's chicks. Watching them on the cam, I thought we could have 3 males & 1 female, but holy peregrines, was I wrong. 4 very sturdy females - look out Dad!
Thx to Lisa from #PWRC for the banding assist!

This photo is an outtake from the shoot we did with RCA for the Share the Land album. I can still recall that summer day in 1970. We had to hike up a hill for the shoot, and the 80-year-old Indigenous man—who looked as though he had stepped right out of central casting—led the way, beating all of us to the top.
On this day in 1816, the Battle of Seven Oaks was fought near present-day Winnipeg.
The culmination of the Pemmican War between the Hudson's Bay Company and North West Company/Metis, the battle left 22 dead. It was a major victory for the Metis.

Radisson - folks have noticed a) images are a little "foggy" in the nestbox & b) the chicks aren't visible all the time. Answers: a) chicks pooped on the camera - we'll clean at banding on the wknd & b) the kids are safe on the balcony - they'll be going in/out now.
