Finally, after flirting with the aurora for nearly 24 hours, we are finally getting some strong substorm indications. This is good news. The fast wind combined with a flanking solar storm blow should give us a short-lived G1 storm (I hope). Aurora chasers stay vigilant over the next 24 hours.

Several rounds of showers storms will move through the region this afternoon and evening. Severe storms will be possible between 3 PM to 9 PM, with Damaging winds and large hail the main concern. Tornadoes will be possible this evening, mainly far SW MI.
It's been a bit since I've posted about a great chance to spot the International Space Station! Tonight provides a great opportunity over West Michigan. It will be nearly overhead by around 9:55 p.m., moving SW to NE.
Now at full capacity, the hydroelectric turbines at the Cheboygan Lock and Dam Complex are increasing flow through the dam by nearly one-third, moving an additional 2,000 cubic feet per second.
