I’m really not North Korean.

Lately, every time I get on a call with friends overseas, I end up proving I’m not North Korean. I know people are pretty worried because of the recent hacks, so I’m happy to tell them I’m not.

I served two years as an artillery officer in the Republic of Korea Marine Corps, stationed on the island closest to the North Korean military.

That red name tag isn't North Korean. It's the symbol of the Republic of Korea Marine Corps.

More recently, I went to the National Assembly of Korea and held a press conference on deferring crypto taxation. It aired on KBS 9 O’Clock News, the flagship news program of Korea’s largest public broadcaster (under the Korean government), and the footage is still up on their official YouTube channel.

Every time someone asks me if I’m North Korean, it’s funny but also a little sad. Feel free to ask anytime. I’m happy to answer.

If the person on the call looks like the one in this photo, you can relax. He’s not North Korean, he’s South Korean.
