An 83-year-old man was about to go to bed when his 81-year-old wife said to him:
“Dear, it seems like we left the garage light on. Could you go turn it off?”
The man, with some effort, got out of bed and went to check. But as soon as he looked outside, he saw five or six thieves trying to break into the garage door.
Worried, he immediately called the police.
“Good evening, thieves are trying to break into my garage. We’re two elderly folks alone in the house. Can you send someone?”
From the other end, they replied:
“We’ve noted the address, sir, but at the moment we don’t have any patrol units available. We’ll send someone as soon as possible.”
The elderly man hung up, looked out the window again, and stood there thinking for a couple of minutes.
Then he called the police again.
“Good evening, I’m the one with the thieves in the garage. Don’t worry about it anymore—I’ve taken care of the problem. I shot all six of them.”
Within five minutes, four patrol cars, a helicopter, two ambulances, and a squad of armed officers arrived.
The thieves were arrested on the spot.
The commander approached the elderly man, visibly upset:
“But how? You said you’d shot all the thieves!”
The old man looked at him calmly and replied:
“And didn’t you say you had no patrol units available?”
