Didn’t disinvite, just didn’t invite. Big difference. Because 150-200 more mouths to feed is not a realistic financial expectation for many people beginning their lives. (My dad didn’t pay for my wedding)
Also, the family members over the age of 60, I’ve known them since birth. They are really the wedding MVPs in my opinion.
Just to be clear, and this is not a joke, we invited one couple that had 9 kids. It’s okay for parents to also enjoy a night out sans kids.
Savanna just got married this past November. My 3 kids weren’t invited. But the children in her immediate family (cousins etc) were. Didn’t feel remotely offended or entitled as her employer to bring my kids. I was just thrilled to witness her get married. Watched her plan and budget for a year and lament the fact that weddings have gotten so unbelievably expensive, because they have.
I think you’ve identified the opposite problem. Guests forget that weddings are not about them. It’s not a bed and breakfast. It’s about a young couple beginning their lives who want you there to witness a vow they are making in front of God. Guests have grown increasingly selfish in the modern age “I’m gluten free.” “Can I make song requests” “I’m on a no-carb diet for 30 days” “my kid is allergic to peanuts and doesn’t like fish”.
These are the absolute worst wedding guests who have seemingly forgotten how stressful weddings already are for a young couple. I wouldn’t assign “they won’t have my kids because they are selfish” as the reason. I agree that kids are great at a wedding by the way. I’m just not sure we should rush to judge people who choose not to invite all of them in an age where there’s a 50% mark up on all things wedding.
