Budaya pejabat Indonesia yang seperti ini dipengaruhi oleh warisan feodalisme yang menjadikan kemewahan sebagai simbol penguasa dan pembeda dengan rakyat biasa.

FYI, di negara-negara Nordik, ada norma sosial tidak tertulis namanya Law of Jante (Janteloven). Intinya, norma ini menekankan seseorang agar tidak merasa lebih istimewa atau lebih unggul dari orang lain. Salah satu dampaknya adalah budaya yang lebih memilih kesederhanaan alih-alih memamerkan status.
