@IceQuebe_@123itsmeMary i go every single time i’m called. they NEVER want me on a jury. i’ve made it to the box for very big cases (like attorney general level), and each time the other side clearly does NOT want me. every. single. time! if i ever make it onto a jury i will be shocked!
the essay: Towards A Black Feminist Criticism. not only does it help me understand Black women’s writing and art, but when i apply it to understand what i am seeing in the world, more things become clear.
i find this fascinating because of the type of palm folks that do not see the tells that i do. i could never actually read his work. i started one book and stopped 10 pages in. and that was it, never read any of his work again.
The Neil Gaiman example later in this thread is absolutely evergreen because he's such a perfect case study for "terrible people can make very good and very progressive, empathetic pieces of art". The sooner we stop conflating someone's morality with their work the better.
in general, those authors have been awful people. so i think about criticism of art and artists, and think about the tells in their work about their worldview and behavior. so the question is, then, how are we critiquing and understanding their art? i keep coming back to

Queer disabled people have been begging for Pride to be accessible for decades. Pride is supposed to be inclusionary. By excluding high risk and disabled people, you're excluding a group that you can join at any time. Disability is interconnected to everything. Please include us.
