Confirm the details showing match your actual identity exactly. Any mismatch means your BVN may have been compromised.

Check Your NIN

Download the NIMC Mobile ID app from your app store. Log in with your details and retrieve your NIN instantly. Alternatively dial \*346# on any network.

Confirm your NIN is correctly linked to your BVN. Mismatches create vulnerabilities fraudsters exploit to open accounts in your name.

Check Every Account Linked To Your BVN

This is the step most Nigerians never take.

Visit any branch of your bank and request a BVN linkage report showing every account registered under your BVN across all Nigerian banks. This reveals accounts opened fraudulently in your name without your knowledge.

Alternatively contact the NIBSS BVN helpline on 0700-2255-226 to request this information directly.

Warning Signs Your Identity Has Been Compromised

Unfamiliar accounts appearing on your BVN report. Bank alerts for transactions you never made. Loan rejection notices for debts you never took. SMS alerts from banks you have never used.

If you notice any of these report immediately to your bank, file a complaint with the CBN Consumer Protection Department at [email protected] and visit the nearest police station.

The Most Important Rule

Never share your BVN with anyone who contacts you unsolicited by phone, WhatsApp or social media. Fraudsters use BVN details to access your accounts and take out loans in your name without you knowing until the damage is done.

Her father declined to speak to journalists or anyone about the death of his daughter when confronted, and he never showed any concern of losing a daughter in a bizarre and mysterious manner. They hurriedly fixed a burial date, and they are set to bury her.
