I'm #KeddyAccessTrail, a recently built cross-escarpment multi-use trail now open in #HamOnt! Trail is posthumously named after kindergarten teacher Jay Keddy.
[3/3] ...Under no circumstances will the City of Hamilton remove important transportation infrastructure, that was the result of years of careful planning, at the whim of provincial bureaucrats in Toronto." - @JohnPaulDanko
Thread🧵
[1/3] We've received messages of concern of the current provincial bike lane removal initiative.
While we believe Keddy is completely safe due to its high integration of important connections, and Keddy's legacy, we understand the concerns of our users...
[2/3] Councillor
@JohnPaulDanko has relayed directly to us:
"The Keddy Trail was a significant investment for the City of Hamilton and now provides a critical active transportation link between the mountain and lower City...
@jdavey_2@PaulsEsther@JohnPaulDanko We will activate a strong battle if it came to it.
However, sources tell us Keddy is likely safe. High expense of removal, blasphemy of Keddy's name, isolation of extensive connections, existing Claremont lanes able to fluidly move vehicle traffic. It's not a low lying apple.
@mdrejhon@RavynSkye1@cycletherapyHam@cityofhamilton Importantly, please follow the Keddy speed limit, as well as the changing laws/regulations.
This applies to every legal device you ride on Keddy Access Trail.
@mdrejhon@RavynSkye1@cycletherapyHam@cityofhamilton Please note, that Hamilton's definition of e-scooter refers to the electric kickscooters, whether personal owned or rental (Bird/Lime style).
The moped-style scooter is disallowed, but the kickscooter style (up to speed/weight limits) is allowed.

@mdrejhon@RavynSkye1@cycletherapyHam@cityofhamilton Please note that the light electric kickscooter rule is part of a pilot, currently valid until November 27, 2024 -- but it is expected to be renewed.

@mdrejhon@RavynSkye1@cycletherapyHam@cityofhamilton Keddy permits *light* electric bicycles meeting Hamilton & Ontario law:
- Working pedals (still bikeable on dead battery)
- Bike unable to go >32kph
- Bike power limit 500 watts
- Bike weight limit 120kg
- Keddy Speed limit 15kph when riding downhill
Walking & cycling are affordable ways of commuting that help reduce carbon emissions while improving overall health. Yes to more and better infrastructure and enhanced winter maintenance! Visit Hamilton’s Climate Action Strategy for more: https://t.co/y0SqeaD8kx #ClimateHamilton
@Chickenleg1951@KeddyTrail has allowed many cyclists to traverse the escarpment safely who normally wouldn't risk it. It's a travesty it took a death of a beloved school teacher to build it. We need safe infrastructure on all the access before another tragedy occurs!

🚲Cycling the Keddy Access Trail🚲
In this video, we revisit the vitally important multi-use trail that started the #HamOnt#Bikeability series, back in 2021.
The footage is better, the graphics are better, & hopefully, the commentary is better!
