A father in China is suing Tencent, NetEase, miHoYo, and 37 Interactive, asking for just 10 yuan (about $1.50) in damages.

He is not doing it for the money, he says his son became addicted to online games, often played until 3 or 4 a.m., stopped eating properly, lost a lot of weight and later ended up in hospital after taking 18 fever pills.

The father says children can still bypass China’s strict gaming limits by using adult accounts or borrowed IDs, so he asks the court to make gaming companies better prevent underage players from circumventing the rules.

If he wins, the case could push Chinese game companies to introduce stricter anti-addiction measures.

According to Alinea Analytics, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has sold around 701,000 copies on Steam, making about $35 million from game sales.
On top of that, players spent nearly $1 million on optional DLC available on day one.

The game has received “Mixed” reviews on Steam due to microtransactions, but it seems people bought it anyway, and Ubisoft and other companies will continue this greed.
