When Future dropped Monster in 2014, it came during a moment when people were starting to say he had lost momentum after his album Honest. Instead of slowing down, Future responded with one of the most aggressive mixtape comebacks ever.

The tape introduced darker, more emotional records like “Codeine Crazy,” which almost didn’t make the project because Future thought it might be too personal. Produced heavily by Metro Boomin, the mixtape reset Future’s sound and kicked off a legendary run that included Beast Mode and 56 Nights shortly after.

What started as a quick mixtape to get the streets talking ended up redefining the entire trap landscape for the next decade.
