🚨#BREAKING: We are learning some INSANE details about the North Carolina jail where inmates overpowered guards and took control of the jail.
Apparently there were only 3 GUARDS ON DUTY at the jail for 88 inmates during the time of the takeover.
Yes, you read that right... three.
>At 5:00 AM inmates at the Bertie-Martin Regional Detention Center in North Carolina began rioting.
A few inmates overpowered two of the three guards and took control of the facility. The third guard escaped the jail and fled, while the other two guards are taken hostage.
The inmates that overpowered the guards assaulted the on-duty staff and then seized large portions of the building.
>At 9:30 AM, after hours of negotiation, the two hostage guards walk out and 18 inmates are also released with them.
>9:50 AM. A second large group of inmates exits the facility.
So far there have been no fatalities.
There are currently TWENTY law enforcement agencies on the scene to try to re-take control of the jail.
The inmates currently inside the jail are alleged to be armed with weapons.
I'm glad someone decided to take down the entire website of the Columbia Law Review, otherwise I probably would not have sought out the entire PDF of the censored article and read this very interesting legal theory about the Nakba!! (link in next twete)
Campus security just tried to take the quad and CCNY students successfully pushed them out and defended the encampment - I’ve never seen anything so coordinated or beautiful
Students are being violently arrested and teargassed at Emory. I hear what I think are rubber bullets being fired. Choking and coughing from the teargas.
Five college students from Palestine solidarity groups: "When Palestinian workers say, We need everyone to go on a global strike next Monday. Don’t show up to your jobs, disrupt regular business because we are suffering here on the ground, we comply." https://t.co/4Mg4gow0Qe
@jbbrager @ruaaup_ptl Do you think you can send me an email or infographic with info about the class? I taught a gender and consumption class on sex work and can forward to those students.
What part of tax dollars (aka wealth generated from ur labor) fund genocide do u not understand Tim? The u.s.+ state govts spend billions on Israel a YEAR instead of healthcare, education, minimum wage, worker rights or anything that'd improve working conditions. Pls be serious
Alright, since you decided to ask me, I'll tell you why the same guy you praise for "wonderful analysis" also concludes, based on the facts & evidence, that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza:
BREAKING: Harvard is evicting a Black @hgsuuaw student from campus housing today for serving as a student safety marshal during a recent campus protest organized by @HarvardPSC
Zionism is islamaphobic and antisemitic. To stand with Palestinians and Jews is to stand against the violent settler ethno-state that seeks its own supremacy by destroying land/life.
Destroying fruit trees is prohibited by Jewish (& Islamic) law.
"War is a struggle between people, but the destruction of trees is an assault on the very preconditions of life. Scorched earth conquest is a stratagem of the hopeless...to inflict destruction at all costs."
Reminder that Palestinians have one of the highest literacy rates in the world. After the Nakba, education became the way for refugees who had lost everything to navigate the catastrophe collectively and individually.
Bombing of education infrastructure is intended to end this.
