I began my visit to Kyiv this morning by going straight from the train station to pay tribute at the grave of Maria Zaitseva. She symbolizes not only our resistance to dictatorship but also Ukrainian-Belarusian solidarity.
It was truly important for me to begin this visit by honoring someone who gave her life for the freedom of Ukraine and Belarus.
Maria was only 24 years old. She was a very bright, courageous, and principled person. Like thousands of Belarusians in 2020, she took to the streets against violence and injustice in Belarus.
And when Russia launched its full-scale war against Ukraine, she did not stand aside. She joined the Belarusian volunteers and became part of the common struggle against Russian imperialism and dictatorship.
For me, Maria is a symbol of a new generation of Belarusians. People who understand that the freedom of Belarus and the freedom of Ukraine are inseparable.
She died a hero, but her name will live on. And it is our duty to do everything possible to ensure that the sacrifice of Maria and other heroes was not in vain.
Democrats just turned Trump's slush fund into an absolute trap for Republicans. A brutal new amendment forced Senate Republicans to cancel their own vote rather than go on the record defending payouts to criminals. Read how the GOP scrambled: https://t.co/T22azEPGz5
Dear @realDonaldTrump. Your request for allies to step up and defend shipping in the Hormuz is puzzling me. For the past year your administration has been hard at work denigrating and humiliating your closest allies. You’re constantly threatening to impose new tariffs against countries that have supported America in thick and thin for decades. You have turned your back to the conflict that right now concerns most of the free world; Russia’s ongoing attack on Ukraine. Many of us suspect that you’re being soft on Putin because you’re admiring him. Why?
And now you’re asking us to help you in a war that you started because your son in law said so? Sorry, but not sorry. America first, the way you’re defining it means that you no longer have friends. It’s up to you to set the world right again.
