There are no silver bullet engagement or community growth hacks.
The most effective strategy is to build genuine relationships with your members.
Take a real interest into their lives. Treat them as real people rather than numbers behind a screen. Everything else will follow.
The difference between audience and community is ego.
If you want a community, you have to step down and not be the main voice. You have to be a bridge, not the star and that is hard, especially for thought leaders and brands who want to stay in the light.
