I still recall the summer of 86 like yesterday. While the conclusion of the season didn’t end well for the Sox, I can reach back in the 40-year memory bank and return to the simple, uncluttered life of yesteryear.
A 1986 Sox/Clemens 🧵
40 years ago today, @rogerclemens lost a 1-0 pitcher’s duel to the late, extraordinarily talented, Jose DeLeon on Monday Night Baseball. This was Roger’s second consecutive loss to the White Sox (somehow), a rarity during the 86 campaign.
Clemens never lost again for the remainder of the (regular) season. The Sox went on a September streak, culminating in The Can shutting down the Jays on a crisp sun-splashed Sunday afternoon to clinch the division.
@Super70sSports Almost as memorable as the 81 Fleer set. Luckily, my folks bought me a complete set rather than purchasing a few shares of Berkshire Hathaway. Worked out well. Oh, and the strike was no bueno.
