As Chair of the Assembly Education Committee, I joined @TonyThurmond, @AsmKevinMcCarty, and @AsmLuzRivas on a @EarlyEdgeCA study tour in Boston and New Jersey of best early childhood education practices as CA works toward quality universal preschools.
From campus greening to wellness centers, as well as dual language and early education offerings, @LAschools is at the forefront of implementing impactful initiatives. Thanks to @SenatorMenjivar and @earlyedgeCA for visiting our schools. #IBelieveInLAUSD
Join us on June 20th at 1pm ET/10am PT for a conversation hosted by @EarlyEdgeCA & @nwlc to discuss how Family, Friend, & Neighbor care can help build a stronger child care infrastructure in America w/ special guests @RepBonamici@RepJimmyGomez. Sign up! https://t.co/JCTiL3P97G
@KalieSacco @JenaFriedman Yes, 10000%. PPD is very real. But there a lot of similar symptoms that could be alleviated if we had systemic infrastructure and societal support for birthing parents and families. Capitalism and new parenthood don’t mix well.
I think “postpartum depression” is a convenient label that allows policy makers to skirt responsibility for their role in creating an environment in our country that makes it impossible for new moms to thrive.
@ChaddHollowed It may be for rodents. My parents have something that sounds like it may be similar and they use it to deter gophers and skunks from entering their yard.
We did it! I am pleased to announce that #AB101, our Ethnic Studies bill, has been signed by the @CAgovernor. Thank you to my colleagues, students, and numerous advocates who have been apart of the struggle to add #ethnicstudies to our school curriculum. #iamethnicstudies
And it's off to the Governor's Office! Thank you to my colleagues in the #CAleg for passing this bill and for standing together during this historic moment. #AB101#ethnicstudies
"[Schools] should also stop the battle to whitewash curriculums to avoid discomfort for students. America’s history is messy but knowing that makes us a wiser and stronger people." - @tomhanks
It's time to make #EthnicStudiesforALL. #AB101@AsmJoseMedina

Tom Hanks asks in a guest essay: "How different would perspectives be had we all been taught about Tulsa in 1921, even as early as the fifth grade? Today, I find the omission tragic, an opportunity missed, a teachable moment squandered."

Reimbursement rate reform is a top priority for #childcare advocates and the #CALeg. Hear from @SenatorLeyva, author of #SB246, as she explains the two-rate system and why rate reform is crucial to support the #childcare workforce. https://t.co/1jQtwCQsUP #CABudget#ChildCare4CA
@jimmyfallon My mom often mixes up common phrases. One time my family was driving through Vermont and came across road kill. As we passed by it my mom exclaimed, "Oh no, not street meat!" She was so genuine about it that it took her a bit to realize why we had burst into laughter. #MomQuotes
Puppies can't be separated from their mothers for 8 weeks, whereas families in this country don't have access to paid leave. "In some ways we have better laws for puppies than for children in this country." Even more appalling when you put it that way. #ReimagineECE@NewAmericaEd
