Under the new trust account authorization requirement, licensees who operate a trust account must provide an irrevocable authorization to the Law Society, which directs their financial institution to release trust account records to the Law Society, upon request.
The requirement is being implemented in two stages:
•New trust accounts: Beginning May 1, 2026, licensees must provide the authorization within 30 days of opening a trust account.
•Existing trust accounts: Authorizations for existing trust accounts must be provided by March 31, 2027.
