The beginning of spring semester always goes something like this: I think I can. I think I can. I can. I’m doing it. This is fine. Annnnnnd. Nope. *stares at nothing in particular* *glances at to-do list* *opens 7 more tabs in browser* *turns on GBBO* I can’t academic today.
Emotional labor should not be a competition or a contest of who deserves it most. I can be burnt out. So can you. In a healthy culture/relationship we should construct ways of being together that honor unique emotions while acknowledging shared experiences.
Twice this month I’ve told two loved ones I am extra fatigued and working from home today. Twice they have responded “Gee I wish I could,” in a patronizing tone. Both times I felt minimized and unseen. Both times I saw their jealousy as burn-out and emotionally labored for them.
I recognize the privilege in choosing to work from home, but I also wish our collective burnout was not seen as a binary choice—as in if I am fatigued I somehow devalue your fatigue because there’s only two definitions of it. Why can’t we all be burnt out together?
To help us overcome fatigue and writer's block, it helps if we develop writing strategies that can help us stay refreshed. We asked our staff what their favorite writing strategies are and are up to our third: Change Your Space. #iupuiuwc#IUPUI#writingstrategies#finalsweek

So mid-semester burnout has officially evolved into panic at the realization that November is deceptively short, and so now we are burnt-out, anxious, AND extra tired from DST. So that’s nice. #DaylightSavingTime#AcademicChatter#workingmom#academicmomma
The worst part of anxiety is no matter how self-aware you are, how much knowledge about it you build, and how careful and intentional you are in living with it, it can still come out of nowhere and surprise you into a complete meltdown. #anxietydisorder#anxiety#AcademicChatter
I often hear I should teach only how to think, not what to think, as if the two were unrelated.
But ppl who know how to think are more likely to reach certain conclusions, making it look as if they were taught what to think. It's really just the result of learning how to think.
In the introduction to their @ncte College English special issue, Ellen Cushman, Damián Baca, and Romeo García provide a critique of constellations and of our editorial practices. As the journal's editor-in-chief, here is my response to their claims:

Pro tip: if you have the power to provide a disabled student or employee with accommodations for their disability you can just do it without requiring that they complete any paperwork or deal with HR.
😘
I'm not one to beat around the bush so imma say it. The College English special edition introduction "Delinking: Toward Pluriversal Rhetorics," misrepresents Cultural Rhetorics and makes some ridiculous claims about Cultural Rhetoric scholars. It's small and petty. Do Better.
My 13yo is writing an argumentative analysis for the first time. Just got to explain what NOT to do by referring to a published example. Her response: I know.
Good afternoon #IUPUI! Just a reminder that the second of Difficult Conversation is quickly approaching. This next conversation will focus on chapters 3 & 4 of Margaret Price's book 'Mad at School'.
Join us on Oct 27 from 2-3P in Zoom # 7983361157

@mattswider My 11 year-old son was able to watch your live feed and score the Ratchet & Clank/Miles Morales bundle all by himself! He saved-up half the cost by mowing lawns. This is only our second try. Thank you! Can't believe we got it!
