Million ways to die & I've seen a few. Farm kid and then some. Baruch Spinoza on even days; William Blake on odd ones. Some days are odder than others.
I think it’s really important, that if/when a MAGA backing individual or group does something that shocks and disgusts those of us who are committed to saving our democracy, that we don’t spend more than about an hour, stumbling around, mouth agape and eyes as big as tea cup saucer plates…stunned. Ten minutes would be even better.
For you see, shutting down emotionally, as a way of numbing out, and trying to protect ourselves from our painful emotions-and our reality-is exactly what those who may carry out such acts are hoping for.
For them, having us frozen…and scared…for days at a time…is good stuff. That’s a period of time we can’t be working effectively, getting people registered to vote, knocking on doors…or other important steps for winning in 2024.
I have a “panel of switches” inside of my mind. Switches I can turn on, or off, as the situation warrants…until it’s safe or useful to reconfigure how those switches are arranged.
Several times in my life, I’ve administered aid in an attempt to stabilize someone who was clinging to life, when every switch except the “calm, measured and cool” switch was switched to “off.” Everything inside of me slowed down, and I entered a silky smooth zone where my focus was sharp, and my mind and body relaxed.
Each time, when it was all over, and I was no longer needed/useful, that’s when my hands would begin to tremble and shake, and my eyes would well up with tears…and on occasion, I sobbed; but just for a little while, and ONLY if there was no likelihood of someone else needing assistance.
That’s when was okay to release all that tension. When it’s all over. But, while someone’s life hangs in the balance, there’s simply never room for any of that.
It’s much the same way when democracy hangs in the balance. We simply do not have time to be “frozen” between now and 2024. We just don’t.
To save this country from being ruled by a dictator, and never again having the freedoms we once enjoyed, we are going to have to get a grip on our emotions, and learn to think about what a USEFUL response to a tragic event really looks like, rather than just defaulting to what our response in the past had always been.
You are capable of so much more than you believe yourself to be capable of. And, yes, this applies to you, even if you’re already a fairly resilient person. There’s always MORE, unless you’re dead, and if you’re dead…it’s a moot point-for you.
Bottom line: saving democracy is going to require more from us, emotionally, spiritually, physiologically and mentally than we had ever imagined. A quick study of world history tells us this is true. Intuitionally, we also know it’s true. We’re just pretty good at burying our head in the sand sometimes, when reality is too uncomfortable.
Head in the sand time is over. Keep your head up, eyes looking ahead. That’s the only place it belongs, now.
Rest assured, there’s going to be some of the proverbial “shit” hitting the fan, sooner than later. When it does, it does NOT mean we have “lost ground” or otherwise been “overtaken.”
These things, when they happen, will only have happened, BECAUSE we are winning. Because we have the edge, and because that fact makes the right fearful….which makes them angry. We will be attacked..BECAUSE we are winning. We just have to keep winning.
In closing, we are winning….because we are winners. We are winners because of IDEAS. Ideas are bigger than any single human being. We’ve had the freedoms we’ve enjoyed…because of IDEAS.
Keep your focus off of “dying for your country.” I have a challenge for you. Step up in an even bigger way than you already have…..and LIVE for your country. Dying for it is the end…for you. LIVING for it, though….that’s just the beginning. Choose to LIVE for this country.
#LiveForYourCountry
@grok@HKotar40040@soulshellb@EricLDaugh “IF” you omitted it?
You did. That’s verifiable.
Also, poll numbers are verifiable, even if their accuracy and veracity are less so. Trump’s boast of “highest polling numbers of my career” is verifiably false.
The hypocrisy is nauseating. Almost as nauseating as the sucking up.
Sucking up to whom? Well, Trump first, of course. His whole MO is “suck up to me, or I’ll put a target on your back”.
But, ultimately, it’s really sucking up to Putin, isn’t it?
Trump could be the president who finally defeated the biggest geopolitical adversary of the last 80 years, instead this administration seems insistent on becoming the ones who managed to lose the Cold War 35 years after it was won.
@RealCynicalFox Patrick, apologies if I’ve missed it so far, but have you specifically addressed your takes on Hegseth and Gabbard, and what impacts they each might have if approved and installed?
In 2020 I was one of 7 dems that won a district that Trump won, so I held a series of listening sessions with people who voted for Trump and voted for me to understand their actions. I reread the transcripts yesterday and much of it felt like it could have been said today. THREAD
@bdquinn Sadly, I doubt it. Vance is really not THAT bright. He’s a protege of the Ayn-ized tech bros (Thiel, Musk, et al) who have the immaturity and absolutist beliefs of precocious middle-schoolers, and the Asbergerian hyper-focus to alllllllmost pull it off. I think they mean to try.
Yes. I understand. Mostly.
Later I’ll have more to say.
But for now, I offer you this video, taken a few seconds ago in my home city of Dallas, Texas. It’s the monthly test of our community’s Early Warning System.

@bdquinn Trump only hires people he thinks are dumb: it’s self-preservation. He only gets rid of his hires when he starts to fear they’re smarter than he is (which, of course, is almost anybody, hence, the record-setting turnover). It’s the Saddam Way.
