@kelseaksutton it is “…the duty of the Legislature to establish and maintain a general and uniform system of public schools wherein tuition shall be without charge, and equally open to all..” Full wording at https://t.co/NbIzrEjlIP
@dos_lynx@kelseaksutton Funding is based upon enrollment, students in attendance, at a specified time in the fall so the state can establish a per student baseline.

No, the funding formula doesn't include unenrolled students living in the district. That's pretty clear.
Sounds like we have loving and working hard for our kids education in common. Our family also makes sacrifices to support the rural school that our community all builds together — even when it’s messy and we don’t all agree.
@kelseaksutton I work my ass off, sacrifice things I'd like, things we may need to put my sons in private school. I'm not wealthy. You're a lying, Democrat sycophant.
They don’t. They get local property tax levies, but they don’t get the per student allocation that is the subject of voucher laws. That allocation comes from the general fund, which is made up of sales tax, fees, video lottery, etc.
@korngrower That is not accurate. All taxpayers pay taxes, and the state pays a per student allocation to schools that are accountable to multiple democratic processes (school board, state and federal standards). It’s not a little pot of money parents pay for their child to a school.
Education is a large chunk of South Dakota’s budget each year. KELOLAND News asked members of the executive leadership team about what bills can be expected in the upcoming legislative session.

Our LEADERSHIP & LEGACY event tomorrow night is sold out, but it's not too late to support the mission! You can still purchase raffle tickets for a quarter Sutton beef or dinner with Billie & Kelsea Sutton online here. You do NOT need to be present to win! https://t.co/4gDsSmga1V
. @forsouthdakota asked what generosity means to us. In one word: CHANGE.
This quote from a current program participant illustrates the CHANGE donations to the Billie Sutton Leadership Institute make possible. #ForSouthDakota
Fun fact: my in-laws’ commissioner district (and polling place) was changed to Bonesteel—despite 30 years of being Burke, living in the Burke zip code, and the Burke school district—the year I was running for commissioner and they “double checked the maps.”
My polling place is a one-way 35 minute drive from my house, and a one-way 21 minute drive from where I work, in a different zip code than my home.
The County courthouse is a block from my work.
Local artist, Kate Witt, beautifies Burke with a brush, some paint, and a story. Arguably her best yet, in downtown Burke she tells the story of a man who was a pillar of the community.
Watch Greetings from Burke

Republicans including SD's Sen. John Thune voted against advancing a bill that could have prevented states from enacting “harmful or unwarranted limitations” on #InVitroFertilization. SD's Mike Rounds has been recovering from eye surgery and did not vote.
