It's been an honour working with the GESSS NSW student team this year, putting together a great Earth Science program across NSW and ACT. We've funded 9 regional students to attend, and more than 100 registrations, but here's your LAST chance to join: https://t.co/hqw2hEwVkj
Join the @gsansw meeting at 6 pm (Sydney time) this Thursday (9 Nov) to hear Dr Tristan Salles @salles_tristan present his recent Science paper on high-resolution global landscape evolution modelling. In person (Club York, L2) and Zoom (register:https://t.co/YZ0gtkMPev). #geology
🎉HUGE NEWS
Australia will continue in global #ScientificDrilling initiatives beyond 2024!
🤝We're excited to join the #NCRIS@AuScope family to create new opportunities for Australian-based scientists & educators.
👏Progress built on decades of #IODP support from @arc_gov_au
The cause of this event was the massive release of CO2 associated with Volcanism. Although the total volume of the CO2 emmissions were much higher, than those caused by anthropogenic activities, our emmission rate (Gt/year) is estimated to be 100 times faster
Very impressive outcrop of the Permian Triassic Boundary north of Wollongong, Australia, the boundary is just above the black coal beds. It marks the largest Mass extinction event ever recorded with 90% of all marine and 70% of all terrestrial families going extinct. (1/n)
The Roving Spotlight podcast: Associate Professor @kelsiedadd from @anzic_iodp on the International Ocean Discovery Program - what does the bottom of the ocean tell us about our geological past? https://t.co/hppt5yPvoG #science#geology
Earth Science has faced significant challenges in Aus and beyond over the last decade. Join us on Wed 27 Sept as part of the GSA's Education and Outreach specialist group Town Hall. Come along to discuss practical steps forward. https://t.co/hAuyvX8bNG @GeoSocAustralia@stansw
"15-20 years eliminates people's careers"
"Not seeing riserless drilling again for 15-20 years is describing shutting down an entire field of science"
Peggy Delaney's comments from this morning's Town Hall meeting with @NSF are still resonating in my head #IODP
This is a big summer for community discussions around the future of ocean sciences and scientific ocean drilling in particular. Please get involved.
The first meeting is this week!

An amazing talk for GSANSW by Indrani Mukherjee on the not so boring billion in early Earth history. An incredible speaker with a fascinating story to tell.
Woohoo!!!!! @teresaubide has been announced as the winner of the prestigious Anton Hales Medal from the @Science_Academy. This is so deserved- Teresa is an amazing scientist and person. Huge congratulations Teresa!
Indeed, the biggest blow for earth scientists ever! But also for ocean scientists, life scientists ... you name it! The @TheJR is in perfect condition to sail four more years #JR4moreyears so that NSF can help this huge community to build a new global drilling vessel #NewJR!
