a while ago I implemented some Python async context managers that enter and leave Linux namespaces so you could use `async with` to run code within the context of a Linux container and it somehow didn't hit me until later how cool that actually is
Countless forces want you to forget the dream of space and the feeling of open eyes when we went to the moon for the first time - but against all odds, we just keep going back. We are a species on the verge of being born and all we have to do is be brave enough to leave the womb.
@justalexoki Try doing increasingly shitty jobs preparing for conversations until you actually fuck it up so your body knows where the line actually is
@JCorvinusVR I'm not sure it's a *new* corruption for them (cf Schopenhauer's art of being right). Logical positivism has been fucked since inception, "turtles all the way down" etc.; high openness nerds just easy to radicalize i think.
@JCorvinusVR This is a common pattern for demagogues right? The politician whips up the crowd against the "imminent threat" which is unstoppable, evil, violent, soulless, etc. as pretext; it doesn't need internal consistency, just to trigger rage & violence
The future will be substantially determined by the coordination capacity and game-theoretical equilibriums between different theories of identity and different metaphysics. if consciousness emerges victorious in its war against pure replicators, then the main theory of identity people would likely hold by default would be Open Individualism.
@AlaSerSer@St_Rev Math papers have to omit a lot of details or they would be extremely long, but sometimes the statements with "elided" proofs are just wrong
Stop calling it an "upload". People don't understand what upload means in computing and in the long chain of future technology this is going to encourage mass suicide unless it's made clear. This is a copy, nothing has been actually moved. When you "move" data in a computing system, it's copied to the new location and then deleted from the original. Fundamentally, there is no way to avoid teletransportation paradox death in computing. We should never allow an "upload" of human beings that is destructive to the original, if we develop this technology for human brains, it would be murder.
There's a real risk here that something like a social norm is established that encourages upload-based euthanasia for healthy people and we need to avoid that.
Population decline is catastrophic, mathematically condemning us to geriatric, deindustrializing societies dominated by totalitarian, risk-averse pensioners whose sole overriding purpose in life is to suck the life from an ever-shrinking portion of young people.
@orphcorp if you remember when you humiliated yourself in middle school that should cause some nice belly tension that will vibrate the pounds right off
The plowshares reminisce of being swords, when, unsheathed, they would not rest until they'd bitten blood. The farmers cannot hear them when they sing their battle hymn, cutting the soil, dreaming the field is skin
