Tonight, I am deeply humbled and incredibly honoured to receive the Best Performing Minister – Africa Category at this year’s Thamani Africa Awards Ceremony in Nairobi, in an event graced by Her Excellency Rebecca Nyandeng De Mabior, Vice President of South Sudan and Canon Dr. Ida Betty Odinga, Ambassador/Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kenya to United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

This award means the world to me! Coming on the eve of Mother’s Day, this recognition is not just a personal milestone; it is an honour to the foundational and transformative roles women play across the African continent, as well as a celebration of the community, team and everyone who believes in the journey and the impact we continue to create together.

Thank you the organizers for this wonderful platform and for recognizing my dedication, hardwork and commitment to excellence, especially in my current role as the Cabinet Secretary responsible for coordinating Kenya’s integration in the East African Community.

As the first woman Minister from the Turkana community, this award is also an encouragement to the Turkana girl child whose community cultural beliefs have, for many years, conspired to deny children education and advancement in society. I want them to know, just like me, with focus and determination, you can make it in life despite the hardships they encounter on a daily basis.

This should be the last Stadium any president in Kenya should construct in Nairobi.
