It’s cynical politics: asking people to vote out of fear rather than for something they believe in.

As a supporter of the Progressive Tory Party I was delighted to see we took enough votes from the UCP to see them lose. Now the UCP should drop the $500,000 SLAPP lawsuit against the Tory Party and its leader. It's clearly not intimidating anyone.

I could not be more proud of Kyle Joseph.

In my time in politics, I’ve met many people seeking office or already elected. Kyle epitomizes exactly what we should be looking for in a representative: character, intelligence, compassion and wisdom beyond his years.

He is a teacher, a community builder and someone who genuinely cares about the people around him.

Kyle entered this campaign knowing he was the underdog. He never complained and never let up - spending his evenings and weekends knocking on doors, listening to people and working hard to earn their trust, one conversation at a time.

He thought outside the box, brought creativity and energy to the campaign, and was an outstanding ambassador for the Progressive Tory Party of Alberta . Even when the campaign turned ugly, Kyle remained focused, respectful and true to his principles.

I saw firsthand how people responded to him, especially current and former students whose faces lit up when they saw him at the door. That tells you something about the impact he has already had on his community.

I also had the privilege of meeting Kyle’s parents and seeing the support of his entire family. Their strength and integrity are clearly reflected in the man they raised.

Last night’s result was not what we had hoped for, but it does not change what Kyle accomplished or the kind of representative he would be.

Calgary-Shaw would be well served by someone with Kyle’s character, compassion and commitment. I hope this campaign is only the beginning.

Kyle, you ran a campaign that you and your family can be proud of. I am certainly proud to have stood alongside you.
