We have finally managed to make small gifts for the local primary school’s kids who visited our factory a few weeks ago😺We produced them using a sequence of processes: laser cutting, deburring and laser engraving. The laser engraving was the most labour-intensive part of the process. Incidentally, the drawings were done by our boss. The teachers were delighted when we visited the school with the gifts. Thanks🐈🐾🐾

The summer of welding is upon us🐈 At Kendensha, we have carried out roof insulation work at the factory and are using roof fans to extract heat. Even so, welding is still hot! Therefore, we are taking measures against heatstroke by combining air-conditioned workwear with cooling vests.

It seems my boss has once again been grappling with a 3D printer of late🐈🐾
What he’s currently making is a hopper for holding powder, though it appears to be a bit of a hobby project rather than a commercial product. Whilst the original is made of stainless steel, he seems to be considering whether 3D printing could reduce the need for machining—which requires skilled craftsmanship—provided the part meets the necessary strength and weather resistance requirements.
However, 3D printing is not entirely without its technical challenges; unless various factors such as the printing method are carefully considered, the machine will simply end up producing a tangled mess of defective parts.
#3DPrinting
We recently hosted a social studies field trip for local primary school pupils. The children were shown how our product -KDS Separator- contributes to the environment, and were given a tour of the entire production process, from design to manufacturing. The children’s eyes lit up when they saw the laser cutting machines and robotic welding machines in action😺We set aside time for questions at the end, and were surprised by some of the sharp questions they asked. Our boss said he would be delighted if this experience helped spark even a little interest in the environment and manufacturing🐈🐾🐾

Last week, we ran a booth at IFAT, one of the world’s largest environmental technology trade fairs, held in Munich, Germany🇩🇪
We were deeply honoured to participate as part of this major event, which brings together companies and experts from around the world aiming to solve environmental issues.
At this trade fair, we focused our display on the KDS Separator, our sludge dewatering machine.
Every day, we welcomed many visitors not only from Europe but from countries all over the world, and received very positive feedback.
Furthermore, our happi coats, which served as our uniforms, also seemed to attract a lot of attention🐈🐾🐾

世界最大級の環境技術見本市であるIFAT(国際廃棄物処理・再利用・資源回収・管理・公共サービス見本市)へ出展しました!
I had a look at the delivery shelf and spotted a tin of cat food!
Upon checking, it turned out to be a product from NEOS.
It seems NEOS has a character called Nyaos😺
As Kendensha also has a cat mascot (myself, KendenCat), our boss seemed to have a sense of affinity🐈🐾
#catlovers #NEOS
We’ve installed a large 3D printer! It is capable of printing objects up to 800 × 800 × 1000 mm. Our boss seems to have had quite a struggle getting it up and running.
Apparently, what we’ll be making is a surprise🐈🐾
#3DPrinting
This time, we tried robot welding 1.5mm-thick stainless steel sheet metal. When done by hand, the weld bead inevitably becomes uneven, and there is a risk of increased burn-through or holes forming. Our boss seemed very pleased with the result, saying it had turned out beautifully🐈🐾
#WeldingRobot
Our boss visited Kure over the weekend😺 He went there following the reopening of the Yamato Museum. He also had the chance to see destroyers up close and seemed very pleased, remarking that its design, which prioritises functionality, really is impressive🐈🐾
It seems our boss has tried his hand at oil painting for the first time🐾🐾 The result is rather hard to describe, but...
Incidentally, the cat in the Kendensha logo was originally hand-drawn by him and then refined by a designer. Cat illustrations that appear all over the website were also drawn by him. Do have a look and see if you can spot them😺 The ginger in the photo is not me, by the way.
Our boss can be good at looking after his belongings. He still wears the leather shoes his parents bought him for his coming-of-age ceremony over twenty years ago, having had them repaired along the way. It might actually be cheaper to buy a new pair, but he says this is in line with the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle)🐈🐾
The new financial year has begun. Unfortunately, Kendensha was unable to recruit any new graduates this year either… Our boss, who had been looking forward to holding a welcome ceremony, was deeply disappointed😿Amidst this, we were visited by TOMUSO's Director, Mr. Kaneko and Manager, Mr. Jun. They had a lively chat about recent developments and reminisced about old times, and our boss seemed to be thoroughly enjoying himself🐈🐾
#TOMUSO
Yesterday, our boss made a bellows using a 3D printer...
It’s stiffer than he expected... Let’s just say it’s a step on the way to success (don’t call it a failure)🐈🐾
#3DPrinting
Our boss is again making something on his 3D printer.
It seems he wants to create something resembling an accordion, so he’s trying his hand at printing using a slightly flexible filament called TPU🐈🐾
#3DPrinting
Building on our previous thin-wall design improvements, we have now taken on the challenge of reducing the wall thickness of the rotating blades. The conventional product had a thickness of 6.0 mm to ensure sufficient strength, which resulted in high material costs as well as significant power and gas consumption during laser cutting. For these rotating blades, we defined the function as ‘maintaining strength’. As an alternative, we increased strength and achieved thinner walls by applying a V-shaped bend.
This resulted in a 50% reduction in material costs, lower laser cutting costs, and improved assembly efficiency due to the reduced weight. Although the number of bending operations increased slightly, the benefits of the improvement outweighed this.

Amid soaring material costs and labour shortages, ‘enhancing product value’ is essential for small and medium-sized enterprises to survive. With this in mind, we implemented Value Engineering (VE) on the tank lids of our products with the aim of enhancing their value!
Previously, the design featured a substantial ‘3.0 mm plate thickness’, but we returned to the fundamental function of ‘preventing external impact’ and thoroughly reviewed the design. As a result, we reduced the previously overspecified plate thickness, achieving a significant reduction in weight. Furthermore, we switched the construction method from ‘welding’ to ‘riveted joints’.
This not only reduced costs but also resolved the challenge on the production floor of alleviating the workload on welders.
We have successfully achieved the simultaneous realisation of reduced material usage (cost reduction), weight reduction (improved functionality) and reduced workload on the production floor (improved functionality).
#ValueEngineering #Kendensha
Deburring after laser processing. Previously, operators used grinders for this task, but this method does it in one go! For thin sheets, it simultaneously polishes the laser-cut edges, thereby also suppressing the increased welding difficulty caused by material changes at the laser-cut surfaces🐈🐾
#DeburringMachine
Kendensha’s fibre laser cutting machines are also compatible with L-shaped steel sections😸 By confirming the origin point with a sensor before cutting, dimensional accuracy is enhanced. This shows the cutting of 5.0mm thick SUS304 steel. This has reduced the manual labour previously required, such as marking with a spirit level, punching holes, and drilling🐾
#Amada #FiberLaserProcessing
Our boss has been assembling something using rotary tools. He wants to polish both sides of what looks like a bar. The basic structure appears to be complete, so all that remains is to fit the cover to finish it🐾🐾
#Kendensha#MacGyvering
