I've got a newsflash for the hyper-patriarchalists:
There is no amount of monitoring or control you can exercise over your regenerate wife that will completely prevent, or make her stop sinning.
And if you think you can, you're elevating yourself above the Holy Spirit who indwells her.
The idea that your control over her can prevent or eliminate sin in her life is also a form of sinless perfectionism.
Furthermore, you, yourself are proof of all of this. If you're a genuinely regenerate Christian, you are also indwelt by the Holy Spirit, and no amount of self-control you can gin up will be able to prevent or stop you from sinning. Don't believe me? Give it a try. (By the way, even *thinking* you can successfully accomplish this is an unspeakable depth of pride and blasphemy - which are sins.)
Christians sin. It is a fact of life this side of Glory. God's solution to this is not for husbands to monitor and control their wives, it's the Holy Spirit's inner work of sanctification on each person's heart.
@LizzieMarbach My dad said that his dad was only one to two men in their church who actually brought their families to church. The other dads stayed home because it was their day off. The moms were the only reason most kids grew up in church. This had generational repercussions.
@SlowToWrite I grew up in a context where adoption was normal. Especially if you had no children, it was almost expected that you would be at least open to adoption. We saw it as imaging our adoption as sons of God and giving a family to kids who would not otherwise have one.
@JoshuaBarzon 6 would be most entertaining + informative. I would say 3 if I wanted a pleasant trip, but I would offend @conservmillen with my flip flops.
Female Texas Cop THREATENS to ticket a retired officer and Christian street preacher for "offensive speech"
Cop: "If someone is offended by your talking, then we have a problem..."
Man: "You're going to ticket us for 'offensive' speech?"
Cop: "Yes, I am"
This cop is blatantly violating the 1st Amendment
