I used to share this with our players before we started our offseason training. Some years, we had them sign it.
The Elite Choose to Do Hard Things
Jesus said in Matthew 7:13-14
13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it (because it is easy).
14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it (because it is difficult).”
Your presence here shows that you have chosen the small gate and the narrow roadbecause you want to be Elite. Elite people want to be the best versions of themselves. They decide to be better today than yesterday and to be better tomorrow than today.
There Are Three Kinds of People: The soft and lazy, the mediocre, and the Elite.
· The soft and lazy dodge work.
· Mediocre people will work when the work finds them.
· The Elite, those trying to be their best, will always find work.
By being here, you have found work - hard work.
You don’t have to be here; you have chosen to be here. You have chosen to do something difficult.
You do not have to be here, but like me, you get to be here. Football is tough, but it is something you get to do, not something you have to do.
We hereby proclaim that there shall be no bad days in our weight room, on our practice field, or in our stadium.
We accept, however, that there will be difficult days, but that’s okay because we have chosen to do hard things.
