One guy in his 40s came for an interview today at my friend’s workplace on the Island.

All the way from Ekiti State.

He was applying for the role of an Assistant Supervisor.

When I saw his CV, I knew he wasn't going to get the job even if his uncle is Tinubu.

The last two work experiences on his CV were Bouncer and Security Personnel, a.k.a. gateman.

I told him, “If you don’t want to go back to Ekiti with bad news, remove these ones and replace them with something that aligns better with the role you’re applying for.”

He looked at me and said he didn’t have any other work experience.

After thinking about it for a while, I decided to help him revamp the CV on the spot.

We used the same work experience he already had, but presented it in a more professional way, focusing on the responsibilities, skills and transferable experience that could actually be relevant to an Assistant Supervisor role.

Nothing was fabricated.

We simply changed how his experience was communicated.

I genuinely hope he gets the job.

Because sometimes, you don’t necessarily lack the experience.

You just don’t know how to package the experience you already have.
