Yesterday we celebrated abi lamented children's day with so many of our children still enduring unspeakable cruelty in captivity.

We complain about our politicians endlessly, but the truth is that many Nigerians lack even the most basic forms of empathy and compassion when dealing with one another.

MOBBED AND ROBBED OF LIFE

Three years ago it was Fwinbe Gofwan. Falsely accused of stealing a car, he was mobbed and robbed of life.

Three years later, it is Ibrahim Mbaya, again accused of stealing a phone and beaten to death.

Let it be said clearly: If you participate in jungle justice, you are a murderer. If you support any form of jungle justice, you are a murderer as well.

It is absolutely shocking how the idle criminals who flood Nigeria quickly constitute themselves into accuser, judge, and jury once there is an opportunity to kill.

But that is what happens where there is no justice. The killings that have gone on in different parts of the state for the better part of a decade now have largely gone unanswered, and now the killings are becoming varied.

Has Jos become a city of mobsters? The bloodlust in a city once famed for its serenity and tranquility is absolutely chilling.

It is election season, and Nigerian politicians can be forgiven for speaking from both sides of their mouths to maintain political relevance.

That a killer is a killer should be left at that. No one should be heard to say that they were deceived into killing others.

But nobody should forgive the Plateau State Governor for saying the state was deceived into fighting for Nigeria during the civil war. Such an outrageous falsehood told to the fiends he gathered from the southeast to endorse him flagrantly insults the victims of a wretched war.

Everything is wrong here, and it is really not going to get better anytime soon.

A COUNTRY OF CONTRADICTIONS

Someone makes an allegation that government officials are diverting ransom money meant for bandits in a country riven apart by insecurity, and like a hawk, the Department of State Services swoops in to arrest.
