Chuffed to get my copy of THE MOTH this afternoon. Rebecca O'Connor, to whom my hat is off, manages to collate poetry, short stories, visual art and interviews into 35 pages, which is no mean feat. Issue 50, Autumn 2022. Pleased too to have a new poem in here.
So last evening I finally completed a draft of this short story I've been tangling with for what seems an inordinately long time. I've been tweaking it and moving the pieces around since. It ore or less completes the half dozen stories I wanted to fold into a collection.
@gorse_journal Many thans for this reply. It's a good journal and severel publications of note have ceased to be over the past couple of years, it's quite despairing.
My pet wordpeeve: 'Let go.' 'We hear that Brown & Co. are letting go some of their staff.' So we get a mental picture of staff who are chained to the floor being released and allowed to leave. No one wants to say 'sacked' anymore, or 'fired.' Why?
@ZoeBrigley@CoalPoetMedia No! Dapper is dapper. My father was dapper. His father, etc. It's a compliment. But I think I tend to be a tad more casual than they.
@HuizengaWest@nour_odeh Are Jewish children not taught to use military grade weapons? If Palestinians were also armed, would there be such arrogance? It is an Israeli law which prevents the Palestinians dsiplaying their flag. Are the occupied people not legally right to fight against their occupier?
@nour_odeh When noting what some of them are saying, one sees that they use ikonography from their own historic past to describe what doom will befall the Arabs. It's as if they want to transfer all that horror from themselves to the Palestinians. But I have no doubt some would participate.
@vmax_14 This bigotry was often mos prevalent among the Irish themselves who, arriving earlier, considered themselves superior to the lads just off the boat. The Irish were very desirable during the Civil War; they were signed up dockside by the like of General Meagher to Lincoln's army.
@steketeh@OliverVarhelyi They are taught from an early age, much as they are often taught to use guns. School tours to view Auschwitz were revealed a few years ago (by the BBC no less) to be lessons in fear; that 'this' might happen again. Not dissimilar indoctrination was used by the Hitler Youth.
@OnlinePalEng There is nothing 'radical' about them, in fact they are illegal and rootless. They are imported by Israel much as the British imported convicts to Australia, to displace the indigenous population and act as a suppressive. They are thugs given extraordinary power and given guns.
