Tak Matsumoto is a Japanese guitarist, composer, and record producer best known as the co-founder and lead guitarist of the rock duo B’z. Born in 1961, he emerged in the 1980s as a session musician before forming B’z with vocalist Koshi Inaba in 1988. B’z became one of Japan’s most successful recording acts, selling over 80 million records.
Matsumoto is known for his melodic hard rock style and long association with Gibson guitars. He has collaborated with numerous artists and won a Grammy Award in 2011 for the album Take Your Pick, recorded with jazz fusion guitarist Larry Carlton. Gibson has issued several signature models for him, including Les Paul, Firebird, and Les Paul variants.
