#Khankendi means khan’s village. Khan is the historic title referred to the ruler. Founded in the late 18th century as a place of relaxation of the Karabakh khans, it then developed into a new industrial city of #Azerbaijan#khankendinotstepanakert#KarabakhisAzerbaijan
@rawespresso On top of all that, many leaseholders face escalating ground rent that doubles every so many years and extortionate lease extension costs. This feels like a deliberate scam. Leasehold reform can’t come soon enough.
@StateDept Brilliant speech!
Talented diplomat delivered hard messages with such grace and respect for shared history that earned him a standing ovation. True masterclass in diplomacy! 🔥
@Keir_Starmer Labour promised to end money-for-nothing ground rents. What’s delivered is a £250 cap delayed until the end of 2028, then a 40-year wait to zero by 2068. That’s decades of continued unfair payments for nothing. A broken promise dressed up as a win.
@freeofhold@danielmgmoylan Same here. We thought that by the time the ground rent was due for yet another increase, the whole issue would have been sorted. But nope, we are still stuck waiting while nothing changes.
@danielmgmoylan Most leaseholders didn’t “choose” escalating ground rent or extortionate lease extensions. They had no real choice. Most flats are leasehold. Gov’t promised reform: scrap ground rent, fair extensions. People made life decisions based on that. We were misled.
@mtpennycook It’s hard to take that seriously when Labour promised to make lease extensions affordable and abolish ground rents. Yet no progress at all. “Wider reforms” sounds good but existing leaseholders still face the same costly challenges. This is just throwing dust in our eyes.
Never forget the genocide of #31March1918!
Taking advantage of World War I and the October revolution in Russia, Armenians, supported by the Bolsheviks, massacred tens of thousands of innocent civilians in Baku, Shamakhi, Guba and other cities.
33 years passed since #KhojalyGenocide, which claimed the lives of 613 people, including children, women and elderly all in a single night.
We remember and never forget the innocent victims of Armenia’s policy of ethnic hatred and genocide against Azerbaijanis and continue our efforts to hold those accountable for these heinous crimes.
