the shirt was originally introduced as part of the autumn/winter 1994 collection, marking a significant moment in fashion history by merging design with social activism. it was reissued annually from 1996 through a collaboration with AIDES, an organization dedicated to raising awareness, fighting HIV, and supporting people living with HIV or AIDS, with a portion of the sales generated from the shirt being donated to support its work.

margiela’s design carried a bold yet meaningful message: “there is more action to be done to fight against aids than to wear this t-shirt but it’s a good start.”
