📣 After years of dedicated conservation efforts, our Partner @ornithologiki has proudly announced that a pair of Egyptian Vultures (Neophron percnopterus) has been spotted nesting on the majestic Meteora rock formation in central Greece!
This is a momentous occasion for the team of HOS/ BirdLife Greece and all the fans of the Egyptian Vulture, both within and beyond country’s borders. 💚
The renowned and beloved ‘bachelor of Meteora’, a male Egyptian Vulture and the last remaining bird in a place that used to host a thriving colony, has been under our Partner's watchful eye for six years. Now, he is no longer alone!
Early April, a second bird was spotted in the area, and we are very happy to confirm that it is not merely a passerby, as has often been the case in the past, but a bird that has come to stay and create a new pair!
This is great news for the future of the country's most endangered bird species. 🤩 Stay tuned!
