@Norrellexplains but it might put students who source their texts differently (used copies, campus bookstore, libraries, borrowing from a friend, & yes *m*z*n, etc) in an awkward or uncomfortable positon.
@Norrellexplains As well intended as this is & as much as I too hate *m*z*n, I think for some students that $2 cheaper price makes a huge difference & it's not really our business to reward based on their spending limits. It's great to encourage them in the direction of Black owned sellers (cont)
@eyoonperez I've been thinking about this Franny Choi poem a lot lately: "but i’ve been watching / from the slaughterhouse. ever since / you named me edible." What a fucking gross show of violence, and what a perfect response of r a g e https://t.co/UYNJRnuGaR
@Tinbadthetailor @WalterTater Clone Wars is god tier children's entertainment, up there with Avatar The Last Airbender imo! I now *like* Anakin in the prequels solely from the character depth Clone Wars gives him lol
@iNadejdaIsha my reaction was more to the apparent scale of this prof's credibility. absolutely most profs have a theory/practice disconnect but most profs (in my experience, at least) don't have public validation to the tune of multiple non-academic press deals and 20K+ followers
truly wild what you learn via academic twitter networks. today i found out that the prof who wouldn't give us paper feedback unless we "volunteered" our time at an event she organized has considerable credibility both within academia & as a "public intellectual" 👀
i started watching street food: latin america for the empanadas & fugazzeta & tortillas, and I kept watching for the empanadas & fugazzeta & tortillas made by a lesbian chef couple whose meet cute was a tackle during a soccer game. 13/10, re copado, well done all
reminds me of the perfect "yes he can quote marxist theory, but does he do the dishes?" skewering of the flattening of radical theory with actual lived practice. yes she can critique power relations online, but does she treat her students with a modicum of respect & compassion?
@langandorf @jeffreymoro Omg I am wearing that Dolly High Priestess t shirt as we speak (tweet)!! Disappointed you didn't go with the ACAB booty shorts tho
.@AqdasAftab and I wrote this solidarity statement to challenge the rhetoric of respectability around international students. Sharing it here again so other folks can adapt it to their particular institutions/ departments: https://t.co/tjPz5K7StF
