Here’s the question I genuinely want people to engage with.

If “all rapists are monsters”, what do we believe should happen to convicted rapists once they have served their sentences?

If someone is still a “monster” after ten, fifteen or twenty years in prison, presumably they remain an unacceptable danger to society. So should they never be released?

And if we accept that some offenders can be punished, rehabilitated, assessed as sufficiently low-risk and eventually returned to society, then “monster” cannot really be a permanent category of person. It describes our moral judgement of the crime they committed.

This isn’t a gotcha and it certainly isn’t an attempt to diminish rape.

I genuinely want to know how people who use this language reconcile it with rehabilitation, finite sentences and eventual release.
