I don't cry easily, but as the dad of a teenage son with autism, ADHD & anxiety issues, watching Tim Walz's 17-year-old son(who has a non-verbal learning disorder, ADHD & anxiety disorder)standing up, crying & pointing to the stage telling everyone "that's my dad" just gutted me
@MikeCrispi You are the lowest form of humanity. The family has been very public about Gus’ learning disabilities. The reaction he had to his father’s experience last night was beautiful. It wasn’t political or fueled by anything but love between a father and son. Who hurt you?

I'm looking for parents in the United States who had a child in Reading Recovery who are willing to talk on the record about their reaction to the new research on the program's long-term effects, reported here: https://t.co/e8OLYE7FWz email me: [email protected]
Our children have suffered for decades from discredited Reading Recovery (RR)! The trauma our children have needlessly endured is horrific! Don’t fall for their rebranded RR marketed as HEROES. It’s the same old thing in new shiny packaging. Enough is enough!
‘New research shows controversial Reading Recovery program eventually had a negative impact on children | APM Reports’ Finally the truth! If you’re a parent of a child with dyslexia send this article IMMEDIATELY to your school board! RR harms kids! https://t.co/Q4RrWcslWV
This makes me, as a former trained Reading Recovery teacher, sad. However, I see now that the need for explicit phonics instruction and authentic literature weren’t adequately addressed.
NEW THIS MORNING: Reading Recovery, one of the world’s most widely used reading intervention programs for young children, took a hit to its credibility today following the release of a new study at the American Educational Research Association conference. https://t.co/6Cvbax4jwJ
… and in BL classrooms/curricula, you almost always find:
- little to no phonics
- teachers doing letter study and thinking it’s phonics
- phonics taught implicitly rather than explicitly
Still a good explainer, from @ehanford:

"Connecting research and educational practice is essential. The ongoing effort to make this happen (which I’ve called the “science of reading movement”) is a landmark development in the history of reading pedagogy. However, it is also a work in progress." https://t.co/NVaass3axF
