From this class, I learned that disruptive technology is a positive force on transforming our society. Technology changes the way we think, create, and interact with one another. #DigiTechS22A
One thing I took away from this course was that disruptive technologies can have an impact on the changing of social norms. For example, online privacy can be affected by this because once you send your personal information online, you never truly know who sees it. #DigiTechS22A
@CF_DeGregorio I think it will be interesting to almost see our homes and appliances “come to life” with all this new technology. We are a society fixated on convenience, so anything that makes simple tasks easier and quick will swiftly become popular.
@jaimipatell This is an interesting topic and I wonder how it will play out with the anonymity factor of an online world. I think that it will be difficult for social media companies to regulate user privacy if it is unclear who is accessing this information.
@AngelinaSabo2 I think this is a very real possibility for the near future of digital technology. Society is focused on quick convenience, and smart homes will make daily life even easier for most people. #DigiTechS22A
The future technology can be so many things, but accessibility features on TVs and smartphones will continue to increase in popularity and innovation. Voice assisted texting and TV remotes with mics, as well as things like Siri and Alexa programs are on the rise. #DigiTechS22A
@AndrewJEpstein1 I think this is very interesting since Smart TVs are becoming so prominent that they are pushing traditional cable out of the way. People are cancelling their cable subscriptions and opting for more convenient streaming services that Smart TVs supply.
@srs328 I think this is a great topic and I agree that TikTok has various positive and negative effects on society. This is an interesting topic because it can show how new technology platforms change the way we interact.
@YangBertran VR is a great example of a new and emerging technology. I think this could be interesting analyzed as a form of entertainment, but I am most interested in what the future of VR will look like when political or governmental figures start to utilize it.
#DigiTechS22A For my EDTP project, I decided to go with TikTok as an emerging digital technology. I plan on describing the positive and negative influences that TikTok has had on communication and society. I also plan on talking about censorship and consumer-producer culture.
@JuliaSch599 Although text messages are a great innovative way to stay in touch with someone far away with a quick message, there are some downsides to how this affects communication in general. For one, text messages have no tone and are very brief. It’s hard to read emotions through text.
@Mustafa_ali0987 The COVID-19 pandemic could have affected this as well. A lack of ability to go into bookstores and an increasing urge to stay inside and quarantine probably contributed to the popularity of buying books online in the form of ebooks.
@SKlein_19 I agree, many kids have lost the ability to properly socialize with other students their age. Also, they are so used to online learning that it will be very difficult to acclimate them to a classroom once again.
#DigiTechS22A One social norm that has changed drastically due to new technology is privacy. Regardless of strangers being able to see your identity online, algorithms can sell personal information to advertising companies based on your interests. (1/2)
Eng asked the students to reflect on what their spending habits would be now, and the majority said they would still use digital money since they are already accustomed. #jr103
“When you have nicer notes, you feel better about yourself,” Eng said. She believes that the appearance of paper money gives a consumer pride in themselves and makes them want to spend more. #jr103
