That is what Banks collected in last 3 years just for not maintaining ‘Minimum Account Balance.’

Not from the rich. Not from big borrowers.
From the poorest accounts in the system.
Their crime? They didn’t have enough money.

A farmer misses the minimum balance - Penalty.
A pensioner withdraws money for medicine - Penalty.
A daily wage worker falls short by a few hundred rupees - Penalty.

The poor keep money in banks for safety. Not to be quietly fined for being poor.

Financial inclusion should protect small savings, not punish small balances.

In Parliament today I proposed ending minimum balance penalties so the banking system stops charging people for their poverty.

अब तक मेरी समझ में छठ मतलब घाट का अर्घ और ठेकुआ होता था। मगर अब जब बिहार के गाँवों में घूम रहा हूँ तो पता चल रहा है कि तप और तज का त्योहार है। कोसी और हाथी के बारे में जान रहा हूँ॥

ऐसा त्योहार जो जाति धर्म के भेद को ध्वस्त कर देता है। छठ व्रती का पैर हर कोई छूता है,बिना जाति देखे। अन्य धर्म के लोग भी छठ मनाते हैं और बिहार कभी ये नहीं कहता कि हम फला हैं,फला धर्म के लोगों से सामान मत लेना। हमारे घाट पर दूसरे धर्म के लोग नहीं आने चाहिए।

बिहार ये सीख लेनी चाहिए। जय छठी मइया 🙏🏼

Deepawali is the largest, and perhaps the only, pan-India festival that truly brings people back home, as those away from family make their way to native towns.

It deserves a full week of national holidays. If needed, revoke holidays like Gandhi Jayanti and few more, that don’t resonate with the masses and give Deepawali the recognition it deserves.

Other countries set a precedent too, with long holidays for festivals like Chinese New Year, Christmas in West, and Japan’s Golden Week.
