Chale I’ve seen a lot of very decent men and women spreading conspiracy theories about MrBeast’s development project, claiming it’s the handiwork of the CIA. Honestly, I find that not only funny, but also quite alarming.
Because CIA or not, the bigger question should be: are the ordinary people who wake up at dawn every four years to vote our leaders into power happy with the conditions they live in?
Do they have access to clean, potable water? Good roads? Decent schools? Basic healthcare? Are their communities developing?
Yes, it is beautiful when our own people step up to help our communities. There is something powerful about Africans helping Africans and preserving our dignity as a people. But how many years have our own people had the opportunity to do this and failed us?
My brothers and sisters, Drive just 50 kilometres outside Accra, leave the main roads and enter some of these communities, and you’ll see people living in conditions that make it feel like 1992 never ended.
So instead of immediately turning a laudable gesture into a conspiracy theory, perhaps we should be asking our leaders to take a cue from it.
If someone is willing to come in and help provide what our people desperately need, the bigger conversation should be: why have we not been able to provide these things for ourselves?

That, to me, is the uncomfortable question worth asking.
