Also what's changed is that I do see a point for algorithmic exercises(they don't have to be Leetcode difficult level, but just to make sure the candidate has basics in place).

Be willing to UNLEARN things you know. I've met too many people unwilling to let go of their egos, stating that they're experienced. But nowadays, mere experience != knowledge.
