I’m shopping for supportive and comfortable sandals that are sort of cute for vacation. Like arch support, wide toe box, and cushioned heel.
Parents making physical contact with their children, through play is incredibly important. This may be unrelated to the original post, but it matters.
Over time, many children become so deprived of healthy affectionate touch that even wanting a hug begins to feel shameful. The need for comfort starts getting associated with weakness, embarrassment, or neediness. Eventually, they convince themselves that they hate physical contact, but in reality, their body has learned to protect itself from wanting what it never received.
For some people, the deprivation runs so deep that they do not even realise they need touch at all. Then, when someone finally touches them with genuine affection, something inside them breaks open. They cry because their body suddenly remembers how long it has been waiting to feel safe.
Healthy touch in childhood teaches the nervous system that love can be embodied.
Very happy for this young man. Louisiana has the highest rate of sickle cell in the country. Instead of flying to Greenland to bother people and lecture them about their healthcare system, our governor could be ensuring that anyone who needs this treatment can receive it.
