@IncredPapist_ Catechumens cannot be saved without Baptism (Ss. Ambrose, Chrysostom, Augustine, all teach this). You can, in principle, via baptism of desire and perfect contrition and love for God, attain sanctifying grace and salvation. You, however, won’t.

They incur automatic excommunication (latae sententiae) by formally adhering to an act of schism, i.e., disobedience and refusal to submit to the Roman Pontiff by following illicit consecrations. The Pope simply has the authority and power to do this.

@tradcath4life @IncredPapist_ Pope Leo (which one?…) didn’t do what exactly? If you’re taking about Pope Leo XIV, yes, he formally decreed the excommunication of the entire order of the SSPX last month. Bishops, bishop-consecrators, the ministers, and the lay faithful are in schism.

@tradcath4life @IncredPapist_ First off, the Roman Pontiff can never be in error or heretical, and his will is said to be the will of the Holy Spirit (which cannot err). Anything ‘less’ than blind obedience to him is schismatic (and this is where the SSPX fall under). The Pope is above canonical legislation.

Their “Sunday Mass” is not a Catholic Mass because they’re alienated from the Faith. Similar to how an EO liturgy doesn’t fulfill the obligation, so to does this apply to the SSPX.

Somebody can be a non-Christian classical theist, or Muslim, or a deist, or an agnostic and completely suspend judgement on the matter (or even more extreme, become atheist).

@_Hehehehe_____ @ChildOfStThomas You’re going to need to send some data on this, i.e., that most people’s religious convictions start from such-and-such point and then lead to something they firmly hold onto. If Catholicism fails, they could, in principle, become agnostic. That’s an alternative to EOism.
