There’s been such a massive shift in the way that we behave, our interests, our hobbies, and how we spend our time that it is genuinely a bit scary. I mean, 20 years ago if someone just stayed home all the time, had no friends, no interests, no hobbies they were considered weird.

@TheLincoln Definitely. A third option that I'm not sure counts as autofiction (maybe more metafiction?) is putting the author/character in a more genre-inspired plot. Loved Delphine de Vigan's "Based on a True Story" for this reason.

@TheLincoln Completely agree. You've got to have some ironic distance (which this is a good way of creating) or the author/character correspondence becomes overbearing.

@TheLincoln This is a good point. It's similar to nature. You can have an abstract discussion about whether a sunset counts as art, if you want. But it certainly doesn't count as *my* art to say, "Look at the sunset" to someone.
