The NAEP reference from the Guidestone report is based on less than 0.3% of Iowa students with IEPs who took the test in 2019. ISASP shows a gap between IEP students and their peers? Isn’t that why we need special education and the AEAs in the first place?
Split up SSB 3073. Most significant investment ever in teacher pay shouldn’t be dependent on AEA portion of the bill. It is an overreach for the DE to be given authority to require curriculum when schools have success w/materials that are working for their students.
AEA bill-1) power grab by the governor-appoints & fires the DE Director 2) Director will have ability to do whatever w/no checks-balances 3) will really hit rural districts-not enough psychologists, social workers etc 4) slow down and change for improvement instead of politics
The AEA Bill is a real problem for Republican Legislators. It’s poorly conceived, unpopular, unrealistic to implement, & unlikely to improve outcomes. And, reform needs to happen. And, the Governor primaries those who don’t fall in line. Best hope: death in the cover of committee
One last idea for tonight… pay teachers better as proposed in the AEA Bill. Scrap the rest of the bill. Add language to pull together a group to study the many factors impacting outcomes for IEP students and commit in the next session to fund and implement those ideas.
The amendment(s) to the AEA Bill will purportedly allow the Ed Services dollars and the federal money going to AEAs to go to districts. If this is really about local control of fund use, then why not include the media services money as well? #becauseitisnt?
A narrative being pushed about AEAs is that they lack oversight. They have local Boards and are accredited through the State. The “AEA Bill” moves the authority for supervision to an unelected state employee under the direct supervision of the… Governor. People see it, right?
The @panorama_csd board of directors approved @GrundmeyerLeadS to lead the search for their next superintendent. This is a great superintendent position in a great location, with a great staff. Please retweet to reach max audience.
Due to retirement, Martensdale-St. Marys (MStM) CSD will be hiring a K-12 SUCCESS COORDINATOR to oversee our at-risk program. Looking for the right person to take a great program to even greater heights - see specifics below. @MSTM_BlueDevils
Hmmm … does democracy include a legislative vote after midnight on such a divisive issue as school choice in Iowa? Evidently the Iowa Legislature believes it does #sad
Hey, since Iowa legislators no longer are allowed to represent their constituents, how about we abolish the Iowa legislature and put all of that saved money towards public schools?
@Macsbooks1 Agreed on not all private schools are religious - obviously. Point is requirements are different for private and public schools. And of course, all schools can improve … you appear to know little about Iowa education - but you certainly have a right to your opinion.
Vouchers in Iowa are WRONG! Public money should not be used for private education - period. A lot of reasons - start with separation of church and state … finish with private schools do NOT have the same rules on admission or services as public schools. WRONG on every level.
