We must strengthen efforts to remove barriers, keep girls in school, and ensure equal access to quality education for all. When the girl child is educated, communities and nations progress.

The engagement explored the complementary roles of judges, magistrates, and parliamentarians in advancing legal and policy reforms, strengthening accountability, and creating an enabling environment for improved health outcomes among adolescent girls and young women.
There was also a call to expedite the hearing and determination of cases involving sexual and reproductive health rights, recognizing that delays in justice can have lasting consequences for women and girls.
The training concluded with a strong call for continued capacity strengthening, regular sensitization, and sustained collaboration between institutions to ensure that reproductive health rights are protected, promoted, and realized in practice.

Advancing Sexual, Reproductive and Maternal Health Rights requires strong collaboration between the judiciary, legislature, healthcare sector, and human rights institutions to address the barriers that continue to affect women, girls, and adolescents across the region.
KEWOPA, in partnership with the Center for Reproductive Rights, continued the regional training for judges and parliamentarians with a focus on adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights, regional human rights standards, and accountability in maternal healthcare. Discussions examined the role of African human rights mechanisms in protecting reproductive rights and promoting access to quality healthcare services.
A key area of focus was the need to eliminate obstetric violence, strengthen maternal healthcare protections, and ensure that justice systems respond effectively to violations of reproductive rights.

What does meaningful preparedness for the 2027 elections look like for women leaders and aspirants?
At the Second Bi-Annual National Gender Sector Working Group Meeting, attended by Cabinet Secretary for the State Department for Gender(@gender_ke ), CS @hannawcheptumo , stakeholders highlighted the need to strengthen womenโs political participation through early preparation, mentorship, leadership development, visibility, campaign support, and protection from electoral violence, including Technology Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV).

KEWOPA Chair Hon. Leah Sankaire emphasized the need for collective action to secure a critical mass of women candidates in the 2027 elections and called on partners supporting Women Political Participation to come in early, preferably before party primaries.
She noted that many women aspirants are lost at the party primaries stage, while support often comes too close to the General Election. She also reaffirmed KEWOPAโs commitment to the full actualisation of the Two-Thirds Gender Rule and election reforms that strengthen inclusion.
As Kenya moves closer to the election period, the message remains clear:
Political parties, leaders, institutions, communities, and citizens must work together to create safe civic spaces, support women and youth leadership, reject political violence, and champion inclusive participation at every stage of the electoral process.
