@juliacmarchese Oh, it's a keeper forever. I started reading it the grocery store line after picking it up at the bookstore when I was 15 and found my new hero.
Clearly John Sayles has seen the responses to Boards of Canada returning after a 13 year hiatus and felt it was the perfect time for his return as well
Once upon a time, Tony Stella got so excited while discussing Fritz Lang's 'Die Nibelungen: Siegfried' (1924), I had to break the podcast into two parts. Check out 'Getting Medieval with Tony Stella – Part I': https://t.co/Liua7UjLW5
I commissioned an original @studiotstella Cobra Commander as a birthday present to myself in 2020, and it has remained my most valuable piece of art. Today I celebrate the delectation of Tony Stella, whose work gracefully illustrated the beauty of film culture.
Tony created art for one of my all-time favorite films to revisit. And this is merely a sample of his accomplishments. He painted and we paid attention. And, from there, a community was born. @studiotstella
I am really shocked to hear that the amazing Tony Stella has passed away
Tony was truly one of the all-time great modern poster artists .. modern in terms of time, but a true master of the classic look .. he was also a lovely guy
Deepest condolences to his family & friends
RIP Tony Stella. The world has lost a true artist. Tony was one of the last bastions of hand-painted movie poster art. He created this amazing FULL METAL JACKET piece shortly before he died. He only shared it with me and a few others. I hope someone puts out a coffee table book of his work someday. 🙏
Tony was so much fun to work with and engage with on X about his passions - loved talkin' Sean Connery or any of his faves with him - his talent was truly out of time, magic, powerful, beautiful. Rest in Peace awesome Tony S. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself and your art
Gerry Conway's contributions to our medium are immense. I consider myself fortunate to have been able to collaborate with him and experience his talent firsthand. As an editor, Gerry was the first person who gave me a chance to write, for which I'll aways be grateful. RIP, buddy.
